Is He a Sweet-Talker?  5 Telltale Signs

Not all guys are sweet-talkers.  Some of us genuinely mean what we say.  We call when we say we will, show up with flowers, hold doors, and consider a dinner date to mean a steak house, not McDonalds.  However, there are plenty of guys out there that are pretty willing to butter a girl up with false promises and sweet nothings whispered in her ear.  The stereotype of guys who are “dogs” that “only want one thing” didn’t come from nowhere.  And sadly, the desire to mate with as many women as possible is a fairly compelling biological urge.  That’s not to say that plenty of men can’t use their god-given intellect and willpower to resist the urge to hump every woman that walks by, but some guys just can’t seem to stay away from the ladies (even if they already have one…or several).  So if you feel that your guy may be sweet-talking you, but you’re just not sure, here are a few telltale signs.

1.  Too many girls.  Guys have guy friends and then they have girlfriends, and never the twain shall meet.  If you notice that he’s “palling around” with quite a few ladies, you may begin to suspect him of being a player (and with good reason).  A guy might realistically have one or two good female friends, and odds are they’ve both turned him down for something more.  No guy has an entire basketball team worth of females hanging around as “just friends.”
2. He talks a lot, but says very little.  If God gave your man the gift of gab but neglected to provide the requisite skill to set a date, then you can bet he’s hiding something.  Evasive behavior and an inability to nail down details (or a penchant for missing dates) is a good indicator of shady intentions.  Be equally wary of men who always seem to say the right thing or have some excuse on hand.  Honestly, no guy is naturally that good, and those who seem to be have had a lot of practice.
3. It’s all about him.  A guy who is genuinely interested in you will show some actual interest.  If he only wants your bod, he’ll probably be plenty keen to discuss what you’re wearing under your outfit, but when it comes to the latest book you’ve read or your sister’s relationship troubles, he’ll be quick to tune out or turn on the tube.
4. His attitude changes in public.  If he likes to cuddle, smooch, and talk cute in private, but clams up and refuses affection while in public, there is clearly a problem.  Ditto if he’s a lamb when you’re alone but reverts to jock-talk the moment his frat buddies arrive.  Any guy who pulls the chameleon act could lie to you without a moment’s hesitation.
5. Late night booty calls.  If he neglects your dates, or always has some excuse not to set them, and then calls you at midnight to come over and “talk,” you can be pretty sure he’s scamming you.
